Pupil Premium

Use of Pupil Premium Funding At Ulverley 2015-2016

The Pupil Premium is a pot of money which the Government allocates to schools. This is determined by whether your child is Looked After by the Local Authority, is adopted, in the armed services or qualifies for free school meals.

The Pupil Premium funding goes directly to schools to ensure all children who are entitled to the funding are working at consistently high levels. It is also used to close the gap in attainment and progress between those who receive Pupil Premium funding and those that don’t both academically and with their social and emotional development.

The following information has been taken from https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pupil-premium-information-for-schools-and-alternative-provision-settings.

Schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

  • £1,320 for pupils in reception year to year 6

  • £935 for pupils in year 7 to year 11

  • Schools will also receive £1,900 for each pupil identified in the spring school census as having left local-authority care because of 1 of the following:

  • adoption

  • a special guardianship order

  • a child arrangements order

  • a residence order

  • If a pupil has been registered as eligible for free school meals and has also left local-authority care for any of the reasons above, they will attract the £1,900 rate.

  • Children who have been in local-authority care for 1 day or more also attract £1,900 of pupil premium funding. Funding for these pupils is managed by the virtual school head (VSH) in the local authority that looks after the child.

In 2015-2016, Ulverley School was allocated £140, 340. We used this Pupil Premium Funding as listed below.

For schools to gain an accurate list of who is in receipt of Pupil Premium funding and who the provision is intended for, parents and carers need to apply for Free School Meals. However, this hasn’t been happening at Ulverley this year in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 as all children in the Infants are entitled to Universal Free School Meals. Parents/ carers can still let the government know if they think they qualify for Free School Meals and Ulverley will then receive accurate Pupil Premium Funding.

Parents/ carers can qualify for Free School Meals if they receive certain benefits. These include:

  • income Support

  • income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • the guaranteed element of Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

  • Universal Credit

Parents/ carers can go online to register for Free School Meals with the Local Authority. The LA will then request further information to check that all the information provided is correct.

At Ulverley we strive to inspire all learners to achieve their potential. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium, the government will provide us with more funding to enhance our provision and provide further resources to support all areas of learning and development.  Pupil Premium funding really does make a difference we urge parents/ carers to register so we can best support our child.

Be positive, resilient and move forward
